Fee Reimbursement Dues: Telangana Pvt Colleges to Shut from Sep 15

Fee Reimbursement Dues: Telangana Pvt Colleges to Shut from Sep 15

Hyderabad: Nearly 2,000 private professional and degree colleges across Telangana will shut down indefinitely from September 15 over non-release of fee reimbursement dues, coinciding with Engineers’ Day which they plan to observe as a “Black Day.”

The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) has set September 21 as the deadline for the release of ₹1,800 crore dues for which tokens were already issued. If the government fails to act, a massive protest with lakhs of students is planned on September 23 and 24.

FATHI has demanded the clearance of all pending dues of ₹8,000 crore, with 50% by October 31 and the rest by December 31, besides a new reimbursement system from 2025-26 with timelines for fee release. The body also sought clearance of dues for 2025-26 by March 31, 2026, and a feasibility report on the proposed Trust Bank by October 31.

With dues piling up, many colleges have been unable to pay salaries to faculty and staff for months. “We apologise to our faculty members for the delay in salaries, but this is due to the reimbursement crisis,” FATHI chairman N. Ramesh Babu said.
